A 'Little' Something for 2011: Mini WRC & Mini Paceman
Mini has some surprises in store for brand enthusiasts and WRC junkies alike. Owner of Mini, BMW, is paying some long overdue attention to their compact brand. Development of a broader model lineup appears to be a smart investment on the part of BMW. While once very 'hip', the Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S both lost their visual youth and overall nostalgic qualities. The 2011 Mini Paceman Concept aims to rebuild this image. The sporty image of the brand looks to be re-embraced by equipping the Paceman with a 1.6L twin scroll supercharged John Cooper Works motor. Another new face on the Mini lineup will be the AWD Mini Countryman which is pictured on the left in full Rally regalia thanks to Team Proline. This new entrant to the WRC circuit is another move on the part of BMW to make a new modern face for this 40+ year old brand. Kris Meeke will pilot the 1.6l supercharged Countryman WRC edition throughout the 2011 season. Citroen, Ford and Subaru should have little to worry about with respect to losing their prestige within the series, however, with a year or two of development the Prodrive Mini WRC team could become a frivolous competitor.
