A 'Little' Something for 2011: Mini WRC & Mini Paceman

Mini has some surprises in store for brand enthusiasts and WRC junkies alike. Owner of Mini, BMW, is paying some long overdue attention to their compact brand. Development of a broader model lineup appears to be a smart investment on the part of BMW. While once very 'hip', the Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S both lost their visual youth and overall nostalgic qualities. The 2011 Mini Paceman Concept aims to rebuild this image. The sporty image of the brand looks to be re-embraced by equipping the Paceman with a 1.6L twin scroll supercharged John Cooper Works motor. Another new face on the Mini lineup will be the AWD Mini Countryman which is pictured on the left in full Rally regalia thanks to Team Proline. This new entrant to the WRC circuit is another move on the part of BMW to make a new modern face for this 40+ year old brand. Kris Meeke will pilot the 1.6l supercharged Countryman WRC edition throughout the 2011 season. Citroen, Ford and Subaru should have little to worry about with respect to losing their prestige within the series, however, with a year or two of development the Prodrive Mini WRC team could become a frivolous competitor.

Audi RS5

The RS5 is the first RS variant of the A5 platform. This is something everyone can get excited for. 450HP is created by the high-rev 4.2L V8. This very close cousin to the RS4 motor produced an extra 30 ponies thanks to a carefully re-imagined dual intake plenum. This is surely a looker and im sure will sound the part. However, my quarrels with this new member of the RS family is its seemingly unnecessary utilization of the retractable rear spoiler. On the R8 and TT this looks quite fitting, however, on this long stretched coupe it is hard to accept. Also, the oval exhaust tips can only be replicated so many times.

Ode: The ultimate AWD Turbo Tuner

B5 Audi S4
You know how the old saying goes "first is the worst and second is the best..." Audi AG must have been strictly adhering to this philosophy when they launched the second generation S4 on a 'B5' chassis. This vehicle has undergone some thorough evolution since its inception in the later 1990's. We are now on variant five of this legendary machine-The newest being the B8.
The power train of the B5 is the sort of things all tuners dream about. Two turbochargers, siz cylinders and (the best part) Quattro all-wheel drive. The modest stock 250bhp can be easily amped up to 320+ without spending more than ~$600 for an ECU reflash and taking a few hours to remove, gut and reinstall the vehicles pre-cats. For a few thousand more...you could take one of these kraut-wagons to Stage 3 status. This holds an experience which is undescribable. The present market value of these cars is minimal making them an easy base for a new tuner. However be weary of high mileage, timing belts and senile KO3's. My Advice: If you see one of these with under 65,000 miles do yourself a favor and buy it.

Devon GTX a new view on American Muscle

High Resoultion Photos
Conceived by some of todays most respected motorsport-minds, the Devon GTX threatens the ZR1 for supremecy in the US supercar front. At roughly five times the price of the ZR1 some may find this monster a bit hard to justify ($500,000) However, the grunt behind these sexy lines may make you forget about the price tag or what your wife would say if you brought one home...but only for a moment. Propulsion is provided by an 8.4L V10 producing a ground pounding 650hp @ 6,100 rpm. The acceleration: Breath taking, literally. The Suspension: Bone crushing. City dwellers think twice before heading into pot-hole territory with this spine-craker
Bragging Rights: Set production car track record at both Mazda Raceway-Laguna Seca and Willow Springs Raceway.

Motorsports Gone Green

You would be wrong if you thought 'Signal Green' was the closest Porsche would ever get to being enviro-friendly. Earlier this week, at the 2010 Geneva auto show, Porsche unveiled the GT3 R Hybrid. A unique electric flywheel generator is used in this Porsche; powering two front-drive mounted 60Kw motors that supplement the 480hp petrol engine. Read More
